The Delaware Statewide Association of Tenants
Leadership Statement
July 24, 1999

WE, the Delaware Statewide Association of Tenants, take full responsibility in making sure that this body becomes a totally functioning organization. We willingly dedicate our time and energy to the Primary Goal of helping it to become fully developed and trained in order to become the spokesperson for all tenants in Delaware.

Our objectives to accomplish this are: first, to organize a valid tenant council at each public housing site; and second, to assist tenants to create or obtain work that leads to self-sufficiency.

WE realize that we can not undertake this huge assignment without the backing and support of the Delaware Housing Coalition so we invite DHC to continue as our partner in accomplishing our purpose.

WE recognize that there is more strength in numbers, therefore we need the support of every Delaware Housing resident to join us, so that collectively our voices will ring throughout the State of Delaware.

WE invite all with the courage and willingness to shoulder this responsibility to join us today.

We acknowledge that real leadership needs to be developed, and this Board needs the training and technical assistance that only experienced advisors can give. Therefore, we request that the Center for Community Change continue to prepare us to unite all Delaware tenants under one umbrella, as one voice.

THE time has passed for fighting and dividing ourselves. Today is the first step toward Self-Sufficiency.
